GROWING IN MUSIC: Twenty One Pilots

TWENTY ONE PILOTS

Twenty One Pilots (TOP) is an American duo originating from Columbus, Ohio. The band was formed in 2009 by lead singer and songwriter Tyler Joseph along the former members Nick Thomas and Chris Salih, who eventually left in 2011. Nowadays the duo consist of Tyler and the drummer Josh Dun. They rose to fame in the mid-2010s after several years of touring and independent releases.

They put out two self-released albums:

Twenty One Pilots (2009)
Regional at Best (2011)

Then,they signed with the record company Fueled by Ramen in 2012 and by now they've released two more albums:

Vessel (2013)
Blurryface (2015)

They've been nominated for five Grammy Awards and have won one for Best Pop Duo / Group Performance this year.

Their music could be defined as Alternative Hip Hop, Electropop, Indie Pop and Rock because of the variety of styles in their songs.

So many people like them because their lyrics are very beautiful and full of meaning and because the melody of the songs is pretty catchy. Right now, their living their dream, which began in Tyler's basement.

La banda fue formada en el 2009 por el cantante principal y escritor de canciones Tyler Joseph con los miembros formadores Nick Thomas y Chris Salih, quienes dejaron la banda eventualmente en el 2011. Hoy en día el dúo consiste de Tyler y el baterista Josh Dun. Ascendieron a la fama a mediados del 2010 después de varios años de tours y lanzamientos independientes.
